First of all, I would like to kindly tribute and commemorate the courageous lady, German socialist Clara Zetkin who faced challenges and begun to fight for the sake of full fledge women right one century ago.
International Women’s Day (8 March), according to UN, in 2015, International Women’s Day will highlight the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action , a historic guidelines ratified by 189 governments 20 years ago aiming to established women rights and avoid discriminations. last 20 years, there have attained huge achievements but still many things have stayed undone and many serious gaps remain.
I would like to commemorate and extract speech of UN General secretary, he quotes “Countries with more gender equality have better economic growth. Companies with more women leaders perform better. Peace agreements that include women are more durable. Parliaments with more women enact more legislation on key social issues such as health, education, anti-discrimination and child support. The evidence is clear: equality for women means progress for all.”
International Women’s Day is a time to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an splendid role from
origination and integration of country and every spectrum of societies in the history of their countries and communities.
Women’s rights is full enjoyment of human rights which facilitates eradication of poverty and enhances economic and social development.
Not only the sophisticated and fully developed country but also underdeveloped and poor countries rural women play a crucial roles for social transformation, development, reduce poverty levels in their communities.
In the field of production, women are less resourceful. if women are equal resourceful as men, they could increase production by 20–30 percent, which will lifting 100-150 million out of starvation. It is estimated that 60 percent of chronically hungry people are women and girls and world’s 1.3 billion absolute poor are women. On average, women are remunerated between 30 and 40 percent less pay than men earn for the same work. On other other hand, Women also be victimized of rape and domestic violence which cause disability and death and psychosocial impacts among women worldwide.
The theme announced as International Women’s Day 2015 : MAKE IT HAPPEN. All around the world, International Women’s Day stand for an opportunity to celebrate the progress made and invigorated and renewed loud voices of women while calling for greater equality. As we doing now, Thousands of events occur to mark the economic, political and social achievements of women. All nations, medias houses, women welfare organisation etc are marking IWD day. we determine that eradication of discrimination progress is very slow and uneven.
No country has yet attained full fledged gender equality and there has been vast persist between women and men. According to UN, “if change is the current pace, it will take 81 years to achieve gender parity in the workplace, more than 75 years for equal remuneration for work of equal value, and more than 30 years to reach gender balance in decision-making,”.
Now, I would like to touch IWD being marked by Nepalese communities in Belgium. I, myself feeling proud and cheerful. As a member of NRNA Belgium in 2008-2011, probably we marked
coordinating all Nepalese organizations and communities for the first time.
After that, IWD is being celebrated more effectively onwards and will be included as special days of NRNA operational calendar. Inside Nepalese community living in Diaspora, have many problems, mainly women of illegal stay and etc. Some solutions are beyond our access but we must plan some projects to reduce impacts of problem-holder. Eventually “We have to appeal to all Women and men to speed up the revolutionize to attain full equality, but not in 7 or 8 decades. We must ensure and have promises that girls are being born will not be discriminated by birth. we have waited long enough. Now, let’s call for action.
